![]() ![]() SMLC acquired 39 acres in the Sibley Prairie in 2014 as part of a partnership project with the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality. SMLC and other conservation organizations are working to protect what is left, less than 400 acres in the Sibley Prairie. It is a high quality representation of Michigan’s historic lakeplain prairie which used to cover more than 16,000 acres, most of that in southeast Michigan. The Sibley Prairie, Michigan’s largest prairie remnant, is located in Brownstown Township, Wayne County. This trail connects several Nature Preserves owned by SMLC and partner organizations, and is great for hiking and even cross-country skiing in the winter. SMLC and Washtenaw County finished the first phase of the Superior Greenway Nature Trail in 2017. Click here to see the greenway brochure and map. Many people enjoy the open rural and agricultural landscape as well as visiting the many nature preserves that are open to the public daily. The Greenway is a known birding and hiking destination. ![]() More than 2,400 acres have been protected in the Greenway through the efforts of the project’s partners: SMLC, City of Ann Arbor, Superior Township and Washtenaw County.
